IN S.T.E.P.P.S. is now offering comprehensive and in depth assessment services for families seeking an in depth evaluation of their child. Most of our clients seek our assessment services due to their child’s developmental delay and parents’ and/or other professionals’ (e.g., pediatrician, teacher) concerns regarding a possible autism spectrum disorder.
The evaluation occurs during one full-day visit that consists of multiple activities. Initially, the child’s parents are interviewed to obtain relevant developmental, medical, and family history. We ask parents to also bring in any reports from previous evaluations so that we may review them. Then, the child will be formally assessed to obtain an estimate of his current level of intellectual functioning. Following this, two of our clinicians will observe the child during a structured play interview (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). The clinic visit will conclude with an extensive parent conference during which results of psychological testing, diagnostic impressions, and numerous recommendations will be discussed.
