Funding Options

As a parent, you would like to be able to get the best services for your child without worrying about costs. At In STEPPS we do our best to help you navigate the funding systems, and find services that fit your budget and provide you with quality services.

Generally our funding comes from three sources: 1) State or Regional Center funding, 2) Health Insurance funding, and 3) private pay. Some of our families use one source of funding, while others use a combination. Contact us for help with securing funding, or click on the button below for more information about each funding source.

California’s mandate for Health Insurance funding for services for children with ASD will begin July 1, 2012. Some insurance providers have already begun covering services as a result of a settlement with the California Department of Managed Health Care. The insurance mandate is complicated as it has some limitations. For example, self-insured plans are excluded from the mandate, although some self-i nsured plans have independently decided to cover ABA treatment. Health insurance programs for California State employees are also excluded from the mandate.

For many families however, health insurance may be a good funding source that does not have some of the artificial limitations imposed by state funding in recent years. Insurance funding may seem complicated at first as you learn about copays, co-insurance, deductibles, and out-of-pocket-maximums, but it is an important alternative for many families seeking treatment. In STEPPS is networked with several insurance companies, and we can help you navigate the insurance system to help you understand how to obtain insurance funding for your child. Call or email us and we can help you get started!

The State of California through the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) recognizes the need for support and services for individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities. These disabilities include mental retardation, Down’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. DDS distributes funds to Regional centers who in turn vendors with outside agencies to provide a wide range of services including ABA. In STEPPS is a vendor of Regional Center of Orange County, and South Los Angeles Regional Center.

Funding by Regional Centers is expected to change dramatically in the next year as a result of the insurance mandate. Please contact us for more information on how this may effect your family.
